We have admired the outstanding leadership of Karl Racine who, during his first elected term, has turned the District’s Office of the Attorney General into an aggressive advocate on behalf of D.C.’s citizens.
Attorney General Karl Racine has been an outstanding advocate for working people since taking office. During his first term, Attorney General Racine established a standalone Office of Consumer Protection and expanded the Public Advocacy Division to better use the power of the courts to defend the rights of District residents.
Racine has done a stellar job as he built an independent Office of Attorney General (OAG) committed to promoting and defending the interests of all the people of the District. He has taken the lead in fighting for the rights of immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, women and minorities.
We have been impressed by Attorney General Racine’s work nationally on environmental issues, and we are excited that the attorney general’s office is expanding its staff to enforce environmental protections here in the District of Columbia.
Karl Racine has worked hard to help achieve safe and affordable housing for D.C. residents and has been a vocal supporter of the NEAR Act. His support of data-driven juvenile reform and other programs aimed at positively impacting young people will help D.C. to eliminate the school to prison pipeline.
[Racine has] proven his commitment to the issues that affect the working men and women of our communities and deserves the full support of the local labor movement.
We are convinced that you are genuinely committed to working with teachers – and all public education stakeholders – to address and solve the systemic problems that are preventing D.C. public schools from guaranteeing that each and every D.C. student receives world class educational opportunities, regardless of their race, ethnicity or economic circumstances.
We would like to congratulate Attorney General Karl Racine on receiving this historic endorsement of the Ward 8 Democrats. We hope many of the issues discussed with voters will remain at the top of his list as we work to make our Ward great.
As the first elected attorney general of the District of Columbia, Karl Racine has made juvenile diversion programs a cornerstone of his administration, bringing a data-driven approach to juvenile justice reform that ensures young offenders have a second chance.
Based upon your exceptional leadership during your tenure at OAG, Local 1403 enthusiastically endorses you for a second term.
